Roulette Beginner’s Guide

The little wheel has betting options for every player.

Roulette is one of the most iconic games in a casino and it is very easy to recognize it due to the spinning wheel. This is located on the table, next to a large felt which presents the various betting options available.

The game is played around the wheel which has a set number of pockets and each of them is represented by a number. There are two big versions of roulette as the European one has 37 pockets, numbered from 0 to 36, and the American version has 38 pockets as result of an extra one for 00. The numbers are arranged in a set order on the wheel and they are also given a color – black or red – with the exception of the 0 pocket which is green.

In order to play roulette, you must simply place a bet on the corresponding location on the table. This has all the numbers on the wheel arranged in ascending order so that players can wager on a particular number, a combination of numbers or on a certain characteristic of the number, between red and black or odd and even.

Once the bets are placed, the dealer spins the wheel and throws a small white ball to go in the opposite direction. As the wheel slows down, the ball loses momentum and drops in one of the pockets at random. Successful bets are paid out according to pre-determined rates and a new round of betting can begin. For the online version, a random number generator determines the outcome but the graphics maintain a similar style by showing the wheel and the ball spinning.

Betting Options

While roulette is a very simple game to learn, there are a lot of betting options available and it is recommended to know all of them before playing for real money. The most important thing is to know that a bet can be placed on one number or on several. The latter option can include random numbers from across the table or groups of numbers which are somehow connected on the table through their position.

Selecting more numbers for a spin also means having better odds of getting it right but this translates into a smaller payout if successful.
